This Changes Everything – Capitalism vs the Climate

In her recently released book, This Changes Everything: Capitalism vs. the Climate, Naomi Klein calls upon us – all of us – to stand up and lead. She makes a strong case for ordinary people to take charge and stop letting politicians and big business decide our future. She challenges readers to ask themselves, “What if our leaders are actually following us, instead of the other way around?”

This is not the first time that Klein has led a campaign to encourage independent thinking followed up by action. In her first book, No Logo: Taking Aim at Brand Bullies, Klein uncovered the dark underbelly of child labor and sweatshops that support the brand fervor of more developed European and North American countries. Readers were challenged to let go of “cool” brands that keep the less fortunate in conditions that border on slavery.

The Shock Doctrine: The Rise of Disaster Capitalism, Klein’s third book, was her first in depth look at capitalism and how it affects every other aspect of our lives. From wars that our governments decide to participate in to our reactions to natural disasters, Klein accuses politicians and the media of shocking the public into compliance with actions that we should be thinking twice about.

In each of her books, as well as in her speaking engagements and other writing, Klein is a leader in encouraging the common man to consider themselves a vital part of the world and its future. Rather than sitting back and assuming that the leadership that we have elected is doing everything with our best interests in mind, we should ensure that we are electing officials that truly will.

Klein’s main objective is simply encouraging the public to think more deeply. Think about what we consume, who we vote for, what we believe, and how our actions will affect the future.

Klein is leading through education. In each of her books, she translates pages of research, reports, and figures into information that can be consumed by the public. She takes an unbiased approach to evaluating the state of capitalism, the climate, and consumerism. In each, she encourages us all to consider the impact of every purchase that we make.

What do we support with the way we spend our money?

Naomi strongly sends the message that we cannot pretend that we don’t understand or are not important enough.

Klein strives to have us all make an impact on the world we live in.
